Here come the Turks. 1500 Turkish troops have just moved into Northern Iraq, to "control refugees and prevent the formation of a Kurdish State". Right. Thousands more are lining the Turkey/Iraq border. Edited to say - apparently that was misinformation on all the channels yesterday, and thought the Turks are still lining the border, it isn't anything new, they've been there for a year or so.
Sympathy to the family and colleagues of the ABC cameraman killed in the suicide bombing attack in Northern Iraq.
I tuned in to Major General Peter Cosgrave's (Chief of the Australian Army) briefing this morning. Little flutters of pride at the news our boys on the "Kanimbla" had intercepted an Iraqi tug with up to 70 sea-mines on board thereby preventing chaos in the Gulf; that the SAS was successfully doing it's "thing" in it's usual low-key way and so far the Aussies were safe and sound, thank you very much.
The international media compound at Qatar got some use at last, pissing off much of the media contingent hanging about for Tom Franks. An Australian army rep gave a briefing to the Australian journalists - not on the new-beaut, no-expense-spared stage set inside, but hey, it's a war, you can't have everything. It was odd to see the Australian journalists mobbed by the other journalists afterwards to get their news.
I never knew that the rules of engagement controlling our troops' activities were different to those of the US. Apparently we have signed just about every Geneva and other convention there is, but the US has not (some areas governing civilian targets for example). Any assignment our troops are asked to do has to be assessed to ensure it meets the criteria of all these rules of engagment. If it doesn't, they don't go. Learn something new every day.
And, back to my reality... I watched my tape of Manchild last night. The flow of drool has yet to dry up. Thoughts are still incoherent but I know I quite liked ASH in his role as James. Don Warrington is a bit of a dish too. I had a real sense of "what the fuck does this programme remind me of" as Nigel Havers was doing all his voice-overs and it finally pinged - Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy and Ford Prefect's narration. But, wtf? Only half-hour programmes? Not bloody enough, I say!
And just because...

How evil are you? Hmm, how boring is that? Must practice more. The green doesn't match the decor.
