Dead in the Water
We all know it's Jensen's favorite comeback to the 'what's your favorite episode' question, but I can see why he feels like this is where he settles into Dean's character. He's a lot more sure of himself, and he gets to really work Dean's range of emotions, and even his voice has settled to a deeper register.
Dean being a horndog may be the best Dean ever. Except for how Dean + kids = best Dean ever. He doesn't condescend to them, he respects them, and reasons with them. And I love how Dean connects to Lucas.
The kid that played Will, the brother? He did a fantastic job of selling that something was pulling him under. Also, this show kinda scared the everloving crap out of me at first. It's gotten more focused on the Sam and Dean character development, which I love, because I don't watch it for the scares. But I always sorta forget how scary it can be watching it in the dark with headphones on.
That camera pull-back from the yellow house, to Sam, to Dean. That's kinda gorgeous.
All of the supporting guest cast for this episode were amazing. I love Peter's mom. and I love Mr. Carlton, and Will, and Lucus and Andrea. And really, they were just all wonderful.

Dean's little 'buh?' face when the sheriff calls them on not being Wildlife Service. He really doesn't expect anyone to check that, does he?

UGH. Lake water on toes is so fucking gross. I wonder if they put iodine or soy sacue into that water to make it boil up brown like that. Also? The "come plaaay with meee" is SO FUCKING CREEPY.
WOW. Sam's eyes are crystal clear green and he looks fantastic when he's talking to Andrea after they pull her out of the water.
I love the shift from "Sheriff" to "Jake" once they find out what happened. It's the obvious outward sign that they've lost even the pretense of respect for him.
The kid they have in the water, Peter? HOLY SHIT SCARY/CREEPY. Sam and Dean leaping off the dock and straight into the water? HOT.
I love that Dean doesn't want Jake to get in the water either, even knowing what he had done. I get the distinct impression that Dean probably doesn't support the death penalty, except in extreme ciscumstance.

Man, I love these boys. And this is a really great episode just all 'round. The MotW is scary, and the guestcast are all great, and OMG the boys look spectacular. What's not to love?
And yeah, there's no way I'm going to be able to stay up long enough to watch Phantom Traveler tonight. I have a splitting migraine, and bandom fic to read. XD Tomorrow it is!
