Beautiful Ohio

I have a project that has brought me to the center of Ohio, on and off, since February of last year. I opened a new office. New real estate and staff, and while the project demanded little of my time last year, I am at the point that I am spending so much time here, I have spent more work days in Columbus than in StPete, this year.

My stays are getting longer, and lasting more than a week. Till now, I've either been sick or had to work over the weekend, but this weekend I decided my cameras and I were going to hit the road. With nothing but a gps for navigation, I headed out on the road, not knowing where I was going. I found myself in Eastern Central Ohio, which is the epicenter of Amish country. This area has more Amish than any other region in the country, even Lancaster, PA.

Below is an Amish barn and house. The obvious tell is that there is no electricity to the house. Most of their barns are white, but some are red. They are all made by skilled craftsman and they are enormous.

Below the house is an Amish school. The countryside is full of them. The kids all go to school till the 8th grade. They are plentiful because the families are large and they do not use buses, so they have to be close enough to walk.

The countryside was littered with beautiful old abandoned cabins.

While I was driving down a back road, I had to stop for 15 minutes so a local dairy farmer could bring his cows in for milking.

I get to go back to Florida this weekend but I think I'm coming back in two weeks.
