My thoughts on Star Wars: TFA (slight spoilers)

I did get to see The Force Awakens, although we wound up catching an evening show. I enjoyed it, but I think if it went back to the inspirations of the earlier movies (wuxia, fairy tales and mythology, diesel-era scifi serials) rather than relying so much on callbacks to earlier parts of the saga, it might have been a richer experience. Also I think it overplayed the Earth Shattering Kabooms a bit.
In such a nostalgia-driven movie, Kylo Ren the Vader fanboy was a nice meta touch.
