Possible future experiment

"Pesto" dessert topping - whir together sweet herbs (basil tops with flowers, mint, lemon verbena, a few sprigs of stevia to sweeten the mix, maybe a little marjoram, lavender flowers or scented geranium for accent) with almonds or pecans (I love walnuts, but I'm afraid in this dish the flavor would be a little dark) and use half-and-half or light cream instead of the oil. Maybe put in a little lemon juice if a touch of tartness would help the flavor balance.

I hope the harvest this August works out well. We planted a lot of warm-season crops, but this corner of the country (unlike everywhere else in North America, apparently) had a cold June, so the corn, beans, basil, et cetera have been off to a slow start. But the plants have hung in there, so barring any plagues of aphids or fits of divine wrath from neglected agricultural kami, we should have decent yields once everything gathers sufficient momentum, although I'm not holding my breath over the eggplant.
Male and female squash blossoms, I have noticed, open at different times of the day. This seems awfully counterintuitive, although I confess I am no expert in cucurbit botany.
