That works amazingly well and it seems like the weirdest crossover ever but it works anyway. I don't remember Ender's Game very well (it's been a while) but the details fitted what I do remember. Also Hikaru! and Akira! and it's the same but entirely different but exactly the same at the same time and I don't know if that made sense but WOW.
You praise me too much *preens*. But seriously, thank you thank you thank you. I'm so glad it worked for you--the same but different! That's exactly what I was after! You make me feel so happy. :)
This works amazingly. I've only read Ender's Game, so I didn't get all the references, but the interaction between Hikaru and Touya--and Hikaru and Waya--was great. And I like the way Hikaru thinks of Sai.
Thanks! Glad to hear you liked the characterization--it was what I was most worried about. And there weren't many references to the other books in the Ender series, so you weren't missing much.
Here via issen4's rec. This might be my favorite HnG crossover ever, it's going straight into memories. Dialogue was perfectly clipped, just like the book's! And Hikaru's Go philosophy really fits.
In the beginning I thought Sai was still there; I was surprised when Hikaru told Touya he'd left. So Sai's itlaics were projection? As in, Hikaru was just imagining them? I totally couldn't tell.
I love the way you mapped some of the characters to Ender's Game characters and didn't map others, especially the way you used to BattleStation setup to reverse Hikaru and Touya's roles. Neat. In the book Ender was distinguished from the others by his age when he entered, and now he is still distinguished by his age, but from the opposite direction. I thought that was cool, especially with the constant cultural references no one else got

Hurrah! Thank you for your kind words...especially about getting the clipped dialogue right! Ender's Game and Card's other novels are such a big influence on me, I feel like I'm always imitating his style without meaning to...just not very well. At least I got it right here

I think you just blew up my mind. I remember wondering vaguely about the stars part in Ender's Game because I read it after reading Hikaru no Go manga for about the third or fourth time but I never thought anybody would crossover it. I'm so glad you did. Ender's Game is my favorite book and Hikago is my favorite anime/manga. This makes me so happy!
I liked how you managed to keep to the basics of both plotlines in the crossover and I think that it was very well written and characterized. I also like that you managed to stick the go "geniuses" into the generalized "geniuses" of the Battle School in Ender's Game. I don't know, maybe that was just because I got recced to read Ender's Game because apparently it's THE book to read for "gifted" children ... ^.^
As a side note, I haven't read any of the sequels to Ender's Game because I've heard that other than the Dink sequel, the rest were pretty much crap compared to the original. Any other opinions?
Yay, I'm not the only one who made the connection about the stars! I'm not crazy! Ender's Game is my favourite novel and Hikaru no Go is my favourite manga too, so you automatically rock! (I'm working on watching the anime now) Thanks so much for commenting

There's something so amazingly perfect about this fic. Just perfect. I love how you took the concepts of genius, of childishi games, and of the Hand of God and- an- I- I'm stunned and so amazed by the way you flawlessly weaved the two worlds together. I mean, by the gods, HnG and Ender's Game. OMG.
It its interesting that I saw Akira as Ender and Hikaru as the anomaly. The one that could have changed everything. And this fic is just perfect.
When someone says "perfect" in the same sentence as one of my fics it makes me very happy! Thank you so much--you've made me feel like my fic was really worth writing.
I tried to make Hikaru Ender-ish too--his adaptability, empathy, desire to save everyone--but you're right that Akira ended up being the more Ender-like. All that emo despair! The isolation! The manipulation from the teachers! Yeah, that's Ender and Akira all over.
I was trying to use some other words, but brain at the time was still in 'stunned-mode', and you know, no regrets about using 'perfect' so many times in one paragraph :D
Oh definitely, I spotted the adaptability, especially during the first engagement and the 'game' against Isumi. For me, the first match was an original Shindou move, while the second was more of a Ender-ish move. It is hard to explain, but the second match against Isumi was more of a desperation move that felt like something Ender would have done.
The empathy and desire to save shown through brilliantly. I think the one major distinction between Hikaru and Ender is that Hikaru had his childhood, Hikaru is so impossibly bright that it is hard not to be drawn to him. Ender was always the genius, the one who was groomed, and his angst fits Akira so well :p
I really, really, really ♥ this fic. You did something that I never thought was possible, but in hindsight is just- just perfect.
Yes! That's spot-on how you describe the two battles. I was definitely thinking of Ender's last Battle School game--the one where he "cheated"--when I wrote the battle against Isumi.
I gave Hikaru his childhood, but I also took away Sai, so I see Hikaru as very mature. He's more willing to be an adult than Akira, who had maturity forced on him too fast and too soon (like Ender). What I've always liked about Hikaru is that he retains all the passion and brilliance and foolhardiness he had as a kid even as he start growing up. To me it's what makes him so "impossibly bright," as you say. :) Peter Pan syndrome!
Ah, you are the perfect giver of feedback. I luvs you. :)

Excuse the repetition. My mind is still stunned.
