Yay, I'm not the only one who made the connection about the stars! I'm not crazy! Ender's Game is my favourite novel and Hikaru no Go is my favourite manga too, so you automatically rock! (I'm working on watching the anime now) Thanks so much for commenting!

I had no idea Ender's Game was THE book to read about gifted children. I always thought a lot of the geniuses in Battle School were kind of dumb (like Bonzo), but the study of Ender and maybe even Peter and Val makes it worth it, in terms of studying gifted kids.

It's been a long time since I read the "original" sequels to Ender's Game, but I remember that, while they were not as good as Ender's Game, they were worth a read. Speaker for the Dead and Xenocide are pretty good; Children of the Mind is pretty bad. They're a lot slower and more thinky than Ender's Game, although Card's writing is always pretty fast compared to a lot of other writers. These books were based on Ender and Val's journey to another planet where they hoped to find a new home for the bugger queen, and there's a lot of new characters.

The second set of sequels to Ender's Game--the Shadow series--focuses on Bean (not Dink!), and mostly takes place on Earth in the years after the end of the Third Invasion. Like the original sequels, the Shadow series is more thinky than Ender's Game ever was, largely because Bean is a lot more analytical than Ender, and also because there's lots of wars and political stuff happening (much of it ridiculous). That's not to say I don't like the Shadow series--I just I treat it as entirely separate from Ender's Game, especially since Card's writing has changed a lot in the past 20 years.

I think quite a few people dislike the Shadow series because it puts a very different spin on the original Ender's Game, and even changes a lot of things we thought of as written in stone. So...if you think of Ender's Game as holy writ, don't read the Shadow series. But if you'd like to see what happened to the Battle School kids and Peter after the Third Invasion, it's worth a look. It's just too bad I don't like Bean all that much in the Shadow series...he's quite different from how he was in Ender's Game.
