As a continuation of what I said last, last weekend was partly good. Stanford won 41-38, and looked pretty good. The vikings, on the other hand, came out completely flat, and lost. After being unsure of what to expect out of Stanford for this year, I'm cautiously optimistic about the team's chances. Do I think they'll win the pac-10? Not really. Do I think they'll make a bowl game? yes. The biggest causes of concern at this point are the linebackers (who apparently kept on forgetting to cover Navy's flanker), and the receivers. With Evan Moore, the receivers are very good, and he's a powerful weapon in the redzone. But since he got hurt (on an uncalled late horse-collar tackle that made me want to shout "you should be given a dishonorable discharge!"), the receving line is not nearly as good. Especially bright spots are the running backs (Kimble looked good running the ball, and a quick glance at the stats said that the other running back had a better yards-per-carry average. So if stanford can actually get a solid run game going, it will open up a lot. Buddy Teevins could certainly never get a run game going. His playcalling was horribly, horribly predictable. And, from that, very stoppable.
I guess I'll save the review of the vikings for later. At this point, I'm not sure why Troy Williamson didn't get the ball at all, however. Essentially, the vikings traded Randy Moss for him. That means I expect something akin to Randy Moss production from him. The raiders made out like bandits. Or, raiders, I suppose.
