Food Catchup

Been really out of touch on posting food plans, see last post for why (just so tired).

This week: freezer week, which meant light cooking on the weekend. Actual cooking:

  • Scored a few quince at the farmers market -- stewed it with spices, lemon, white wine, tangerine peel (definitely got the idea from tamago
  • Dry-fried long beans, yum

Menu for this week:
  • Mains: Leftover pumpkin/sausage curry with a Thai-ish packaged simmer sauce, onions, celery. Tasted a little salty because of the packaged sauce, otherwise tasty. Red beans and rice from the freezer (woohoo).  Dal from the freezer, with an egg cooked into it on reheating. Aforementioned long beans.
  • Soup: Green soup (not sure what's in this one, but it's good), and pumpkin pepper soup, from the freezer.
  • Salad: Lemon/olive oil vinaigrette with romaine, frisee, daikon, red/yellow bell pepper, fennel
  • Fruit: Figs, Asian pears, pears, grapes.

Last week: Dal, cauliflower, and eggs, with leek and potato soup and pear-and-walnut salad dressing. Tried out cilantro sprouts and poha berries (good but probably just an occasional treat.)

Week before last: Chili with pumpkin (we're having a pumpkin theme. Green soup. Pear and walnut salad.

Before that: Beef shanks and sausage stewed with pearl onions, cabbage, white beans, and rosemary. Red lentil soup. Phasing out the strawberries for the season, phasing in pears and red grapes.
