Today I was hit by a truck.
The actual event was nothing as spectacular as that statement alone suggests. There was no spectacular smash of flimsy aluminum chassis against iron grill, nor any spray of shattered glass flying and biting flesh and maybe bone. Nothing of the sort. "Bumped" is rather a better term for what occurred, so allow me to ammend that.
Today I was bumped by a truck.
It happened at the end of San Miguel where it intersects with Shaw Boulevard. I was in the leftmost lane, preparing to turn, when the truck in the centre lane pivoted too sharply and veered into my front passenger side. The distinctive crunch told me that I now had a crumpled panel to contend with. I beeped in protest, but such noises are common on the street. The truck driver took no notice and continued driving, with me on his heel. At the first stoplight, I took down his plate number and prepared to call the owner company, a thankfully unnecessary precaution on my part. Although the truck driver was oblivious to his blunder, the intersection police saw the accident clearly. They whizzed by on their motorcycles and asked the truck and me to pull over.
Everything else was proceedural, for which I was very glad, since it was also in Tagalog, which I don't understand. My aunt drove over to handle the situation while I passively took in my first ever automobile accident. Three police officers testified as witnesses to the event, and I was escorted to the nearby police station to file a claim for the official report. The truck driver apologized and told me he may not have a job tomorrow. I wished him luck; losing his job over an honest mistake is not something I wish upon him, although it is very likely. Hopefully, his insurance will cover the repairs so I won't have to. If not, I'll have to pay $100 participation for my insurance to handle it.
The only ordeal I suffered throughout the process was that, before I got bumped, I needed to go to the bathroom. Bad. It took a great deal of effort to hold it in during the initial incident report and throughout the trip to the police station. You don't know just how glad I was to finally be home by the end of it!
Anyway, that's that. I thought I'd use the occassion to return my attention to this neglected livejournal. As usual, I have a great desire to use it more often, but whether that will happen is up in the air. Between everything going on right now, there scarcely seems time to reflect, much less put such reflections on paper. Would be easier with a camera, but that is a piece of hardware I am still lacking.
Tonight there is a lot of work to be done, so I'm off to do that. Cheers, guys.
