For you, I will.

There was a time when there was nothing else more beautiful than freedom, sweeter than fresh air, and more true than the music strumming calluses into his fingertips. He remembers the first rooftop concert. He remembers Independence Day. He remembers the Cleansing Campaign shortly afterwards.

That’s all in the past, Junsu thinks, because there are still miracles yet to be made. In an underground apartment, he waits anxiously, until, there it is: the distinct cry of a human first learning what it means to live.

She is a baby. She is a bundle of love, helpless and completely oblivious to the movement around her, while above ground, the whole world watches. Some will embrace her because there hasn’t been a baby born since they can remember; some will hate her for what she represents.

“I want her to see the sun shine,” Junsu says suddenly. “I’ll do whatever it takes.”
