PUBLIC ENTRY - OH NOES

Sep 24, 2006 22:43

So this was about Japanfest this past weekend. Somewhat image heavy, but I've provided links for most~.

Saturday -

Saturday got started off kind of late...we ended up skipping our art class, and then journeying there. We got lost aong the way, but we took some good pictures.

The event was at Stone Mountain, which apparently is famous for civil war battles?

Isn't it pretty? ^_^

The mapquest thing we used...actually, it was google map, and it told us to go on the entirely wrong road, and then it got dark and there were deserted houses and such...

And it was a little bit creepy!

The only good picture I got was of this cute little girl all dressed up in her yukata! Her mother was very nice and I tried to be nice in asking in my broken Japanese for a picture~.

かわいいですね!

Bradley and I also got our fortunes told by some Shinto priestesses. Mine was Ichiban - 1, the best! And I think Bradley got Nijyuurokuban - 26

I would REALLY love to volunteer in that booth next year and be a miko! *_*

I got sick on Saturday, b/c I dressed for what I thought was appropriate weather...I thought it was going to rain. So I wore double layers and really long pants. It's been cool here in Georgia for the past couple of days, so I figured even if it didn't , I'd be okay.  Oh no, it ended up being 91 degrees. So, after eating a bento which had delicious rice, からあげ (fried chicken, but not at all like our fried chicken), vegetable やきそば ( Fried egg noodles), and やきにく (grilled beef). SO good, but we left immediatey after eating....because it was ENTIRELY too hot, and I just got way sick from being hot.

Sunday was a LOT better. We got there as soon as it started, and I dressed appropriately in case of hot weather. But wouldn't you know it? As soon as we got there, it POURED rain. Luckily, it cleared up soon after. To pass the time with the rain, I went to the yukata dealer to see if there was anything there that I might want to get. I had found a yukata on Saturday that I liked, but didn't purchase. And of course, it wasn't there today. ;_; Story of my life - I'll find something I like, angst over it, and then decide to get it ANNND then it's gone.

These girls were in the area where they were selling kimonos...and then they went over to the children's section. Aren't they cute ? ^_^

After walking around, Bradley and I made our way to see the taiko drumming, which to say the least...was AMAZING. すごいわよ!

We then had lunch~. I had てんどん (fried shrimp and fried vegetables over rice) which was amazing...and Bradley had やきにくどん ( Grilled beef over rice). We then went and watched the tea ceremony.

We then walked around for a bit after that was done, while waiting for the traditional dance presentation, and I ended up getting to try a Yukata on and having some pictures taken. It was really nice, and it was weird. The lady who was fixing my hair was like "mm, you don't need a lot of hair ornaments, you already have a beautiful face!" and I was like "erm...? um, thank you"
because I didn't really know what else to say.

Yeah it's big, but I LOVE how it turned out.

It was so nice! *_*

After that we walked around a bit more, and looked at the cheapo stuff at the bazaar, but nothing really interested us. I saw this harvest moon poster and it was amazing and I really wanted it, but I asked how much it was, and it was a bit expensive. I might have shelled it out had it not been THE only harvest moon I hate...which was the first one for the PS2, Save the Homeland. You can't even get married, WTF?

I ended up buying this really intricated handmade origami decoration that I want to hang in my car when I actually get tags for it again...and it has a really nice fall color palette, brown, peach, yellow, and orange...I need to take a picture of it. *_*

Bradley and I then made our way to see some of the traditional dance -

And these kindergarten kids performed too, I think it was while we were waiting for the dance!

http://www.kawaiiwigs.net/JapanFest/kindergarten.png They were so cute and singing and dancing, haha. ^_^

I really wanted to eat some たこやき ( fried octopus dumpling) before I left, but they closed up!

I also have a video of the taiko drumming that I need to post, but I'm so tired.

JapanFest was fun. I can't wait until next year.
