The problem with UFOs...

Apr 02, 2014 08:09

I had an "AHA!" moment yesterday when I remembered that I had a half-finished medieval kirtle in my UFOs. "Oh this will be great!" I says to myself. "Perfect timing!" I mumbled as I dug it out. Alas, the problem with UFOs is that we change and they are left behind. In the case of my son's UFOs, he grew, leaving behind unfinished and unwearable pieces. In this case, when I found it, shook it out and tried it on, the fit was fine (let's just celebrate that for a moment) and I still love my sleeve pattern, but... the fabric is wrong, the skirt fullness is wrong, the lining is wrong, the seam finishing is wrong... So, the moment of truth comes today. I will decide if it is getting finished or if it is being scrapped, because it isn't going back into the UFO pile. I already cut up two of my old medieval dresses to reclaim the fabric and I do love this fine silk broadcloth (it drapes like a rayon challis), so I think I know what the answer will be. Sigh. Then I will cut out my newly patterned wool kirtle, after having sworn I didn't have time to dye fabric or draft a new pattern... :P
