hanging out at home

I've been lurking lately - my kids are visiting from the states and keeping me very busy. Today I bought them train tickets and sent them off to Disneyland so I could have half a day to hear myself think (and to hang out with hubby). Their text messages seem to indicate they are having a blast. :)

I've made a number of medieval garments lately, and hopefully I'll get to take pictures to post soon. I have some finishing work to do on some of them, so that is what I will keep active for now. I also got a commission for a couple of "costume" dresses, so I need to bang those out by the end of the month too. There is a newbie friendly event on January 22 with the local costumer's group, so I may dust off one of my bustle dresses and venture out for that. I don't have a specific "winter" ensemble, since living in California was like living in permanent spring/summer. But maybe the black and white could pass - the underskirt is velvet, after all.

I met with my opthamologist today and got a new prescription for glasses. This is the first time I have needed reading glasses. Bah. Aging sucks. He also prescribed vision therapy. I guess my eyes aren't working together properly, causing focal problems. So hopefully I'll also be back on the embroidery wagon soon. I'm dying to put my antique stand frame to good use.

The kids leave on sunday and tuesday, and then my sister arrives on wednesday! Revolving door here. It's her first visit to Paris and her first time leaving her kids for a week. We will be keeping each other busy for sure. Then I can really catch my breath (read: hole-up) and plan 2011.

And just cuz pictures make any post better, a silly picture and a tooth-fairy pillow I made for my niece:
