Random ramblings

I love being in Alabama so far. Perhaps it's because I've had no real obligations the past few days, and it's an amazing feeling to be able to do whatever the heck I want.

Today, for instance, I went to see The Da Vinci Code. Then I felt like seeing another movie, so I bought a ticket for Over The Hedge, which didn't begin for an hour and a half after Da Vinci got out. So I wandered over to Barnes and Noble, bought a book, and just sat outside in beautiful weather, reading, waiting for my movie to start.

I'm sure it will really hit me sometime, but right now, I love being alone. One of my sometimes good/sometimes bad qualities is when I am around other people (that I care about), I am constantly trying to make sure they are happy. It's nice to have a break from that. I know I don't HAVE to try to always please other people, but it's just how I am. I can't stop it. Unless, of course, I am alone.

I love reading. I love getting lost in mostly fictional worlds. It's so relaxing. In the past three days, I have bought 8 books. I'm currently reading three, which can be slightly confusing jumping around, but I think it's fun. Maybe this is connected to my love of multitasking. I love having so much time to read. I love it!

I also love the smell of my new lotion: pomegranate martini. yum.

I miss Chris Daughtry. It saddens me that he was voted off American Idol last week. Thank God for who ever runs the site overmused.com, so I can continue to listen to Chris whenever I want. One things about living in Birmingham, AL, hometown of Taylor Hicks, is his mania is EVERYWHERE. There are banners on the side of the road. Billboards, he's in the newspaper every day. I can't escape him. Stacie told me he was at the mall I went to yesterday about a week ago. And 12,000 people showed up. Can you imagine? American Idol is so dumb. Yes, it brought Chris's voice to my ears, but, ugh, I will be glad when this Taylor Hicks business blows away.

Speaking of blowing away (but in a different way), the season finale of The Office last week was AMAZING. Not only was it wonderful because Jim FREAKING FINALLY confessed his love to Pam, but I got to watch this spectacular television moment with two of my best friends (chamanda & danielle). We all had the same reaction. We screamed and grabbed each others' hands. I think Danielle said it best: the three of us all "came in our pants." haha. Definitely will be happy when the show resumes in the fall. FINALLY! A show I like isn't canceled!

So I spent my first two days here shopping (for things like a desk for my computer and hangers for my clothes, which sounds sad, but really, the traffic & stop lights here are ridiculous, it really did take me an entire afternoon!) and unpacking. Then I spent today in a movie theater. What's next? Tomorrow there is a pet parade downtown. If I can find where it is downtown, I want to see that, because I do already miss my dogs. Having the picture of Teddy topped with a fake silver, fake jewel-encrusted crown on my desk just isn't enough.

I start work Monday, and am looking forward to it. Sure, having this break has been nice, but I am here for a reason, right? I really hope I will make wonderful friends here, as I had in Detroit.

Douglass, I know you will probably be the only one who reads this, and I want to iterate: you are not allowed to get married without me there.

OK?

Just making sure. You worry me sometimes.

me, work, tv, american idol, fun, the office
