I had a marvelous weekend, because my dearest
concinnity came and stayed with me, and we did cool San Francisco things like sitting in coffee shop / bookstores and drinking cocktails made by dudes in bowties. It was AWESOME. We even bought books, books on paper. Here are the books I bought that concinnity got me for my birthday because she's the best:
1. Midnight Never Come by Marie Brennan - It's seems to be historical British fantasy, with Queen Elizabeth I interacting with fairies and things.
concinnity says we met the author at ICFA a couple years back and she was super nice, but I have not memory of this. Anywho, it seems like lots of fun, and full of ladies!!
2. The Coroner's Lunch by Colin Cotterill - I wanted a mystery, because I'm interested in trying to write more mystery myself, and wanted something unusual. This protagonist is a 72 year old Laotian man who's one of the only doctors left in Laos after the Communist takeover in the 70s. I am ALL ABOUT unconventional narrators and being immersed in settings I don't know much about, so I'm excited about this one.
3. His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik - Because I wanted to leave the bookstore with something I knew for sure would contain good writing, and also I like to support fellow fan people when they grow pro, and also, dude, Novik can write. Write like whoa. So YAY. Also, I hear there is a fandom for these books? I am interested in that.
I worked hard on my Merlin OT4 fic this weekend, and it is getting close to done! Anyone want to beta 5-6K of OT4 reincarnation feels set in the 1950s? (OT4 = Arthur/Gwen/Merlin/Morgana)
