Here's the story: in June I wrote
a post about how I love established relationship (ER) fic, and how not everybody likes it, and how maybe this is partly about how hard it is to develop dramatic tension in ERs. And I say, "Someone should host a fest!" And
jelazakazone, who is an enabler of the worst sort, says, "YOU should host a fest!" And I say, "But. But I don't know how! Also, I'm shy." And
jelazakazone, who in addition to being an enabler, is also a lovely human being, says, "Let's do it together!"
And thus was born Established:
Join our meta discussions as we ramp up for the challenge in January. We figured that one of the reasons that writers avoid ERs is because they can be difficult to write: it's harder to develop dramatic, romantic, and sexual tension. But we're pretty sure that it can be done. How do we do that? We're not entirely sure, but we figure if we get a bunch of people together and have lots of juicy conversations about it, we're sure to figure a few things out. So that's what we're gonna do: host weekly discussion posts on different topics up until December, accumulating as many meta resources as possible, and then host a challenge in January during which we all push ourselves to put what we've discussed into practice. We're hoping to get a wide variety of people, from those who write nothing but ER to those who have never tried.
