it's been a while since i made a decent post, so, hi! sorry if i've been pretty absent. final semester of uni is proving more invasive and time consuming than i imagined.

what i'm watching/reading:

I actually bought the Kings boxset for whatever ludicrous price they were charging in HMV because I loved the series that much. I'm still so annoyed with NBC over their piss-poor promotion of it. It could've been so easy - everyone who I told it was based on the Biblical story of King David was immediately interested - but they shied away from potentially upsetting anyone and ended up with crap ratings the show absolutely did not deserve.

That's so weird to me, idek. It never even aired here, not even on cable, which is really strange to me because cable here buys everything ever, from German soap operas to obscure English reality shows that no one has ever watched ever. But even on free to air, this sort of show is the kind of thing ABC and SBS eat up. Especially the fact that Chris Egan plays David. I mean, he was on Home and Away here for years and Australia obsessively supports our baby Australians off making things over seas.

Lol, I love how youtube never forgets. Also, bear witness to the dodginess of 'Home and Away'.

I also may or may not be writing Jack/David fic. THEY'RE SO MUCH FUN.

That actually surprises me quite a bit. From what I recall, the show was massively expensive, which is one of the reasons NBC was so quick to cancel it when it underperformed. You'd think they would've been pimping syndication pretty hard trying to eek out a decent return on their investment.

Also, yay for Jack/David fic! I was actually just reading a TV Trope's entry on the Relationship Writing Fumble when I came across an example from Kings about David and Michelle having zero chemistry and coming off instead as two people who decided to start a relationship based on mutual values and objective attractiveness instead of any kind of spark. To which my immediate thought was, well, yes but that wasn't a fumble! It was just the perfect set up for David/Jack coming later on down the road! :P

Yeah, it surprises me too. My mum (who works in tv and film) was telling me that networks in other countries generally don't buy shows with less than four seasons, so if they tried to sell it after it had been cancelled, then it's unlikely many foreign networks would've been interested in buying it, regardless of the quality, without the promise of at least a second series and a lot of hype. little hype + low ratings would not have been appealing, I guess ( ... )

That movie looks extraordinary, I'll keep an eye open for it!
And hmm, you're the second person in a week's time to tell me to read more Keats, haha! I'm taking this as a sign ;).

It's really, really good. Brendan Cowell is one of my favourite Australian actors and insanely underappreciated. 'Noise' is another incredible one. Like, honestly -

I recommend pretty much everything he's been in.

And yessss. Keats is amazing, especially his letters to Fanny Brawne. Have you seen 'Bright Star'? Because I think they're my rl OTP.
