The mother is to blame. That kind of deliberate disregard for your child's welfare is inexcusable. And you're right, the poor kid had no choice but to announce her rape to the public, and that in itself is just so wrong.

What surprises me is the lack of a screening process the radio station had when setting people up on the lie detector. Surely there should be a pre-production stage where they assess who has 'harmless' truths to let loose on suspecting parents. The fact that they put this girl on the radio just proves the ineptness of the producers in handling their guests.

And yes. Again, agreed. I actually think that they should address it on a broader scale, instead of continually bringing up this girl. The media should be using this not to target Kyle and Jackie-O, but to target rape. They really could've used this to shed light on unreported rapes in Australia, and to address that issue publicly and try to support younger girls coming forward to the police. Instead, they've turned it into something dumb, repetitive and insensitive to a little girl who was raped and didn't report it in the first place.
