Definitely, Maybe

Okay so 95% of the time I would totally just avoid going to see a movie thats so obviously a sappy love story or "chick flick", such as this. But I'll admit it, I was sucked in by the cast. I freaking LOVE Ryan Reynolds! No, not like some weird teenage boy-crush. I love his acting style. The attitude and personality he puts into his characters. He just seems to always have something witty to say. Its great! :-)
Then of course I have a HUGE crush on Isla Fisher (April) I can't explain it, something about those big dark "doe eyes" and amazing red hair gets me EVERY time! So with those aspects alone it was pretty much a given that I HAD to see this movie :-P

Unfortunately I missed the very beginning of the film, But I pretty much knew the set up from the trailers. The Daughter, curious about her parents decision to divorce and about love asks her dad to explain. He responds with "its complicated" so instead decides to just tell her the "full story" of his life, but changes the names of his various Lovers and leaves it up to his daughter has to figure out who her mom is. What a fun little father, daughter bonding game :-)
It was pretty cute when the movie would do little breaks to remind you this was a story being told. But personally I was so into the story itself I could have done without the little interruptions, or even the daughter all together. Sure that might have made this just another love story. But the curious daughter element just really didn't play as well as it could have. I think it was the little girl's acting that threw me off. She came off much too wise in the ways of love for someone her age. It just wasn't realistic.
The rest of the movie however was great. It did a good job illustrating how life doesn't always turn out the way we expect it to. Somehow it avoided most of the typical pitfalls movies of this genre tend to suffer from. Such as building up impossible odds for two people, all to be washed away by an all too conveniently timed "I love you" and dramatic kiss.
Sure the happy ending is of course still intact here. But At least it keeps you pretty much guessing until the end. Or at least up to 15 minutes before the end :-P
Either way, I really connected with the characters in this movie for the simple fact that they were able to come off as REAL people. Not all cheesy or silly like most other romantic movies do.
So if your in the mood for a fun little love story, I would Definitely recommend this one....Maybe :-)

4 out of 5 3-way explanations :-D
