Driving home tonight, the car in front of us slowed down a little bit and then went on the other side of the road to go around something. As we got closer we saw it was a dead animal. A duck. And then we saw its mate, the male, standing on the side of the road about a foot off of it just staring away from the street. I cried. It was so sad to see this poor duck standing off the road staring the other way looking completely frozen. It seemed as though it didn't want to leave his mate but knew that there was nothing he could do. He looked so lost and I think it about broke my heart.
