A few of my favorite things: my ridiculous figure collection (and some concert mp3s)

Oct 10, 2011 22:15

So, it's my birthday this Wednesday. Guys, I'm going to be old (am already old, but making it official?). No longer will I be able to cling to being in my "early" 30s. At 35, it's mid-thirties at best, and next year, I will be dancing on the precipice of "late thirties ( Read more... )

rl, figures, clearly i need more sleep

Whoa. That is an awesome collection. Almost immediately I thought "Hmm. Maybe I should start collecting figures." Because that's just what I need. Something new to spend money on ( ... )

Thanks you!

Though I was listening to the mp3s, and there's a glitch on Attack it! I'll fix the files later this week and put up an edit so you know ^^; And I'll be listening to them all just to be sure. I think I know what happened :P It's what I get for gutting files late at night when I'm sleepy :P

You know what's funny? Almost all of the figures you picked are really new--maybe under a year--GOOD EYE ^_^v

But I do love the attention to detail--the first and last ones you linked are really quite phenomenal in terms of details I was lucky enough to snag them before the presales sold out \o/

I'd need to check, but for She Ra, I think I've found She Ra, Angella, Frosta and Glimmer. God knows what shape they're in though--a Rubbermid bin in TX for 3 years >_< Maybe they'll have all melted together and I can put a heavy slab of glass over them and have the coolest end-table ever ^_^v

FLANGE! <3

Again, these are amazing! They are really quite gorgeous. Before I saw pictures of the ones you owned, I never really had much of an opinion on action figures (other than, wow, panties galore) but these are epic!

:D :D

I have a question and feel free not to answer, but I was just curious, because I hear action figures are quite expensive, though maybe it's just rare ones or something, so how much do you generally spend on an action figure/how much is the most expensive one you have?

And on a more practical note: do you dust all of them?? That must be annoying! But they are totally pretty enough to be worth the effort so you can show them off!

I wish I collected something. I mean, I collect card jokers a bit, but nothing super cool. I am jelly!

Also no one who likes Arashi can be old. SILLY *glomps!*

I'm glad you like them!

In general, they are somewhat pricey. The very lowest end (like the posable one with the sword standing on my computer) was maybe $20, but the figurines which are 1:8 or 1:6 scale tend to run anywhere from around $60-$120 in US dollars, and depending on where you get them. Luckily, I've been accumulating them over the last 8 years or so, so I could amass the collection over time, but it's not a cheap hobby at all ^^;

I'm pretty bad about dusting them, but I do have one of those compressed air cans and those help a lot. I just have to avoid doing it while the cat is in the house because the sound really freaks her out ^^;

I love that you collect Jokers! So many of the are so cool!

*glomps back*

I do! I hafta admit I only know what a few of them are from, but, they're gorgeous~

Oooh I see! Thanks for answering my question! :D I am le curious creature.

No one can blame you for being bad at dusting, it is the most boring of all the chores, I find. Though compressed air would probably make it a lot more fun haha!!

:3

*mega birthday glomps!!!*

It was really late, wasn't it? Maybe they aren't as in your face as they seem to me. I just remember my parents' horrified looks when they first started seeing them ^^; Now that they've had over 10 years to get used to it, though, they're kind of in to them. And my brother and sister in law even got me one for Christmas off of my Amazon list!

OMG, it's finally here *hugs*

GOOD LUCK, YOU *squishes*

Happy early birthday!!!!! \(^o^)/
(& I won't tell how not-old you are if you don't)

FIGURINES!!! OMG, I was SO always Cheetara on the playground in 1st grade. 8| And I am so in love with the detail/artistry on most AniManga figurines. I especially love the way the hair on this one just seems to glow.

Such an awesome prequel to your collections!

Heh! It's a SEEEEECRET!

And thank you!

I totally have a Cheetara! And three slightly different versions of Teela (the original figure, realistic thighs and all!), and an Evil-Lyn! I kind of want to get the more vintage ones out for display, but am a little afraid to venture into the Rubbermaid tubs of Doom. God help me if the TX weather has fused them all by now ^^;

Yeah, the translucent hair (and sometimes legs) seems to have been a thing with the Bome (sculptor) figures a few years ago. There's a bit of that on the Xenosaga figure, too. I like it in the hair, but maybe not so much when the legs do it, which is hard to see here.

I kind of think the figures and my Arashi shrine are the two more interesting things in our apartment. Well, that and the bajillion books . . and our stuffed animals . . . and our board game collection ^^; We are kind of . . . accumulators ^^;

I can't identify who these figurines are except for Rei Ayanami but these are beautiful and awesome. I will probably stare at them and check the details (I really admire those little details that makers can squeeze into figurines)

Have a nice birthday week! *hugs*

Thank you!

And I know! The details of the face sculpts and the costume bits just amaze me--I thin the running girl with the hydrangeas in her hair is one of the most detailed-- I just am in awe of the little flowers. And I didn't take great pictures of her, but the woman in the pink kimono and blue obi--the paint details on her outfit are spectacular. I like to make fu of all the detail and thought that goes into their stockings and panties for the fanboys, but honestly, the love and attention to detail in them just makes me happy :)
