So, it's my birthday this Wednesday. Guys, I'm going to be old (am already old, but making it official?). No longer will I be able to cling to being in my "early" 30s. At 35, it's mid-thirties at best, and next year, I will be dancing on the precipice of "late thirties."
Oh the horror ^_~
Anyhow, I said I would post some of my ridiculous random collections, since I am an accumulator par excellence and what better way to kick off my birthday week than by displaying evidence that I refuse to grow up?
So all week, I will be making random posts of my random enthusiasms and favorite things, not all of which are boyband-related. It will be a week of ridiculous self-indulgence and massive picspams. Feel free to pass on by ^^;
Today, I will start off with my ridiculous collection of "action" figures! PIC HEAVY ^^;
But in return, I offer mp3s of the Scene Dome concert?
Zipped mp3 files of Scene Dome:

MF edit: Attack it! has a weird silence in it--will fix and replace ^^;
So my longest-running collection began in college, when I started collecting female action figures in my junior year. By the time I was midway through grad school, I had accumulated around 200-300 figures, mostly of the DC and Marvel comics variety, with some old school Thundercats, He-Man and She-Ra for nostalgia's sake, and the McFarlane Spawn-related figures because in the late 1990s, that was kind of the cat's ass of American figures.
None of those are included in this post, because they are packed in two huge Rubbermaid bins, because I live in an apartment and don't have room to display them, but someday . . .
Instead, for your viewing pleasure/horror, I have the 70 figures currently on display in my entryway, which is to say, the very first thing guests see when they enter the house.
I consider it a bit of a litmus test.
Seriously, if someone walks in and says "OMG what the hell is this???", chances are a) that person is not going to be a keeper and b) that person is not and will likely never be ready for the real crack of boybandery.
She is so judging you right now.
It's that kind of house.
I think these figures appeal to me in much the same way Arashi costumes do in terms of the attention to detail:
Also, the panties. They love the panties on these figures.
I tried to preorder this figure when I passed my dissertation defense, but the seller ended up not getting her in stock. I mourned for three years, and then found one while on vacation in Japan last year \o/
These figures are all based on designs by Range Murata, who did the art design for the anime series Last Exile and Shangri-la. I really love their aesthetic and the attention to detail on them.
Ignoring the underwear, look at the details on her shoes &hearts
This one is one of my all-time favorites.
Popular themes:
Girls with swords:
It's probably some thinly-veiled Freudian thing.
Try not to overthink it, seriously.
Also popular: Girls with guns!
Maids! (and other women in improbably ruffled maid-like couture
The ever-popular maid with gun!
Girls with kitties!
You'll likely have to click on this one, but look at the shoulder of the girl on the right--lots of kittehs!
Girls who are kittehs
Girls with masks
Girls dressed in clothing that defies not only common sense but also the basic laws of physics:
No, really. What the hell, ladies?
Girls-next-door who are totally not the girl next door
Other assorted fun:
And there you have it: The 70 or so random figures which greet all of our guests in our entryway ^_^v It's a miracle we have friends at all, I suppose ^^;
This is one of the reasons I never let students into the apartment ^^;
Anyway, Happy Monday, flist&hearts!
How are things going?
