This has been an out-of-sorts, ill-at-ease, under-the-weather week -- miscommunications and unanticipated anger. Bah. My throat started feeling scratchy on Monday evening, I stumbled into a hornet's-nest-opinion on charities on Tuesday, and today I received the suggestion that one solution to some current bewilderment with life might be to find my soulmate.
I came home from work and made myself breakfast comfort food. I fried a couple more slices of scrapple, and I stood over a hot skillet to make chocolate chip pancakes from
n0r1_h's vegan pancake recipe and sweat away my unhappiness. Then I went to a contra dance, attempting to stamp and twirl my way to equilibrium.
Fortunately, last week was filled with exciting events!
At some point around a third of the way through the game of dominoes two Sundays ago, I incredulously commented that there should be some record of the fact that I was in the LEAD...and
grumpy_sysadmin kindly jotted exactly that on the score sheet. ;) g dogged my heels in the ending rounds, but I managed to hang onto the lead. More amazingly, I was comfortably ahead of the other archangel, the one who usually dominates games. It was mind-boggling luck, an unexpected boon during a relaxing Sunday afternoon, along with the sun seeping into my pores and the alcohol flowing through my blood.
Last Monday right after work, rather than going home to be productive before a boringly-early bedtime, JLR and I went on an expedition. We ventured down Broad, then (on her suggestion) wandered east on the too-infrequently visited Bainbridge. We saw the
Winter and
Autumn murals, houses with deep royal blue shutters, Zagar mosaics of tile and mirror, siding painted orange, and roof decks. Eventually we wended our way to our 'goal', the
Pink Rose Pastry Shop.
While eating cake, I discovered that we were just down the block from
Essene; I had heard of this natural foods store but not visited it yet. After JLR pointed out teapots she desires in the windows of a tea shop, I dragged her into Essene to marvel at the ethnic and vegan food selections. Half a dozen varieties of sprouts! Rows and rows of bags of dried seaweed with names I didn't even recognize! Spelt pretzels! Half a refrigerator case of hummus! Towers of sodas with cane sugar! I wanted to sample everything! I wanted to live there. (JLR: 'I don't think they take boarders...')
Last Tuesday was May Day, and I have mentioned that excitement
elsewhere.
Last Thursday evening was AWESOME. The paralegals went to Moriarty's to happily eat wings and drink beer for an hour, then I ate yummy sushi with
grumpy_sysadmin and
tanglethis. After a stop for bubble tea, g and I went east to Old City to play pool, where the Hot Chef joined us. And since he was driving back to West Philly...on his motorcycle...and his helmet fit me...he gave me a ride home afterwards. SO COOL!!!
Friday I had a delicious dinner at Buddakan with my father, Saturday I volunteered at Reading Terminal, and Sunday was a day of relaxation and
breakfast food. All quite wonderful.
