So, uhh...in Maryland, is it legal to turn left on red? What about onto a one-way major highway? I strongly doubt it, but I can't rule it out entirely, because Maryland apparently does allow parking in the right lane of a three-lane highway ( Read more... )

Route 198 is three lanes wide. People park in the right one (in the town of Laurel) all the time.

A lot of places allow that during certain hours. I'm not that familiar with Laurel, but I know places in Alexandria and DC where the right lane allows parking during non-rush periods.

This is all fine and dandy, but it's very frustrating to not know *when* those periods are (e.g. is 4 pm rush? Obviously 5 is. What about 6?). This is why I always drive in the center lane. I mean, it's a good habit in general, but it's mostly because of that crazy parking thing.

Some roads evidently allow it at all times (198W, for example). That, or there are a lot of illegally parked people every day, which I wouldn't doubt.
