1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter.
2. List (and upload) 5-10 songs you love that begin with that letter. (I cheated just a bit here...)
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions.
This post brought to you by
eldrfire , who gave me the letter G to get me going.
You know, I think I have to be rather thankful for this somewhat less popular letter (at least according to my songfiles). It was hard enough to narrow it down as it was, I couldn't imagine if I had a letter with twice as many songs to choose from!
Go-Getter Greg by Ludo
Because I love tongue in cheek hilarity. This is a stalker-ish type guy singing to the new girl in his complex. I promise it's funnier than it sounds. I was going to put this song,
Goodbye, Bear/Love Me Dead by Ludo, but the video just calls it "Love Me Dead" so I worried I was cheating. Now I guess I am since I put the link in anyhow. Whoops! ^_-
The Garden by Mirah
Because this is funky and wonderful and I love beat/drum driven songs.
A Girl, A Boy, and A Graveyard by Jeremy Messersmith
This boy is pretty much pure awesomeness. Hang out on his site a while and listen to some of his other stuff. I just discovered him recently but I'm addicted.
Glanfaidh Me by Kila
Because progressive celtic music is awesome.
Grandmother Song by Vienna Teng
Written as an attempt to understand the perspective of someone she said she didn't get very well. Most of the ones up on youtube are live, which are really fun, but the sound is so much better on the album version just because there's not much instrumentation and most lives are somewhat muddled by nature.
Green Eyes by Discover America
It's funny because this song sounds completely different from everything else on their album but I love both their styles. More of a garage sound, throwback to the 60's and 70's with their lo-fi, and they're just so chill. Everything you'd expect from a Seattle based band.
Golly Sandra by Eisley
Because girl rock (though I use the term loosely since it's indie) is awesome. Fronted by some awesome women they reinvent their sound a little bit from song to song but it's always quirky, their harmonies aren't the boring crap that most groups come up with, and I love their play with minor/dissonant sounds to create a mood.
The Gates of Istanbul by Loreena McKennitt
Goin' Hunting by The Arrogant Worms
Couldn't find it on youtube so here's
another one of their songs to give you an idea of what they sound like. They are another one of those parody bands that I absolutely adore.
Golden Street by Kate Earl
I like most philosophical music that is more about the question than the destination. This is another one of those and the tune gets stuck in my head like crazy.
Great Expectations by The Gaslight Anthem
Apparently I just really like lo-fi.
Grace Kelly by Mika
Because how can you not like this guy? (Although I will admit I find the video - which I saw for the first time just today looking for the link here - is vaguely creepy to me.)
