Hermione ficcage.

So, here's a very tiny snippet of Harry Potter fanfiction. It's Hermione in the summer holidays after the first book. I was somewhat hampered by the fact that a) We really don't know much about Hermione's home life at all - her parents are dentists, but beyond that I got a bit stuck, and b) I don't read HPfic, so I have no idea what fandom!Hermione is like.

Hermione had never been particularly fond of summer in the first place. It was nice to be free of the constriction of school timetables, she supposed, but she wasn't learning anything. As far as she was concerned, that made most summers a complete waste of time.

Her usual habit was to go to the local library, pick a topic, and spend the summer learning everything she could about it. Last summer, that topic had been Wizards. (Not that she was able to do that at the town library. She'd had to find special places for that.)

She spent the first couple of weeks of her first summer away from Hogwarts rediscovering - at her parents' insistence - things she'd forgotten while she was a school. Television. Movies. Radio stations. It was hardly a substitute.

Consequently, by the third week she was buried deep in her text books.

That magic was forbidden to students during the holidays... that she didn't like. She dearly wanted to practice some of the things she was learning. Really, Wizard books were so much more interesting than anything she'd ever learnt from the town library.

That wasn't all she did, of course. She read the Daily Prophet every morning and exchanged letters with Ron almost as often. She wrote regular letters to Harry, although she never received replies. That was a worry she often mentioned in her letters to Ron.

Her parents took a week off work and they went on holiday to the South of France. It was a nice chance for Hermione to practice her French. She tried looking for evidence of wizards in France, but it seemed they were just as adept at hiding their presence from Muggles as the English were.

Characterisation mostly based on trying to figure out what I'd do if I were obsessed with studying. Ehe.

In other news, the fiction world needs more people with wings. This message brought to you by Escaflowne.

Also, Methos is the only character in Highlander with any sense.
