It's not the heat, it's the humidity. No, I lie. It's the heat and the humidity. But especially the humidity - I feel like someone signed me up as an extra in Finding Nemo without telling me ( Read more... )

Apparently our prisons are trying an open door policy this summer. How very... something.

Hey, ours are charging the inmates for their stay, because our county's so far in the hole it's no longer quite as funny.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a prison, it's a hotel...

And there wouldn't be a problem if there weren't so dang many inmates. *sigh* Can't they just let the druggies go? They won't hurt anyone.

If you'd care to try a good gen story where no one gets laid, can I recommend Paid In Full and also 'Cat and Mouse' by the same author. Much fun.

Have you read shrift's "Big Damn Zombies, Sir"? It's gen. And really freaking funny.

"Big Damn Zombies, Sir" is a great story.

Any of you ever done this - started reading in a fandom and discovered pairing preferences you didn't know you had?

Not so much in OTP fandoms like Sentinel or SG1, of course, but in Buffy there are so many characters to mix and match, and I'll give a lot of things a try, but I definitely find that trends occur--like, hmm, I don't like to read Spike/Angel so much because people tend to write an unappealing dynamic, but I really like Wes/Angel, etc. :>)

Yeah, it seems to happen in fandoms where I think I see more than one possible pairing. :) But for me, the actual quality of the stories I find doesn't really affect my preferences all that much (like, I'd much rather be a big Mal/Simon fan because as far as I can tell, that's the more popular and possibly more well-written pairing).

Not so far. However, when I started reading Highlander fanfic, I discovered that I had a thing for kilts. This took me totally by surprise. Sad to say, there is very little good kilt fic.

Kilts! Kilts are good. Though I mostly associate them with the Sith Academy, rather than Highlander, weirdly enough. :)
