hopple!

Okay, that was one of the weirdest movie-going experiences I've ever had. Yes, I've just been to see PoA. No, I'm not talking about the actual movie.

I went to a late-night screening to avoid small children. Which, yes, was a successful plan. The average age of the audience was around 17, I think. It might have skewed to 18 because of me and these two 13-year-old girls who were stuck with an attendant parent. I stood in line for the toilets with girls who fixed their hair and giggled and talked a lot and giggled and fixed their hair, and I thought, great, they'll be talking and giggling through the whole thing. Hordes of teenage boys thundered past wearing extremely trendy clothes, carrying six-packs of Coke and buckets of popcorn, at least half of them either talking or playing a game on their cell phones. I shared a row with six skaterpunks, all of whom had their boards with them. (And their phones.)

Then, after the previews, this audience of loud, cooler-than-thou teenagers turned its cell phones off, went Ssshhhh!, giggled for a moment at the way they were all shushing each other, went Ssssshhh! again, and stayed perfectly silent through the entire movie. Not a phone rang. Nobody talked. Nobody even wrestled any loud bags of candy into submission. Afterwards, the skaterpunks streamed out discussing Snape's character and attitude (I think they were for it), and behind me, two of the lipglossiest girls giggled madly about Emma Thompson's performance.

My favorite audience ever. I want to marry them.
