I got a new computer this spring, did I mention, and so of course it runs Windows 8. Or to be precise, 8.1. Took me a couple of hours to arrange things so I could actually use them, and there's still some stuff that annoys me no end. But the way it keeps talking about apps instead of programs makes me want to pat it on the head and say there there

Awwww. That makes Win8 sound so eager and young - almost sweet! Now I feel guilty that when I got a laptop some weeks ago, the first thing I did after installing Win8 was installing a program that makes Win8 look and act like Win7 (as much as possible).

Well, not really. I seem to have very little patience with awkwardly cool youngsters who inconvenience me. ;-)

KOTOR has been lingering in the back of my mind for a long time, too. I've gotten as far as downloading it, even... maybe I must also try it out one of these days, seeing as how I have utterly failed to get over my dislike of all the guns in Mass Effect, and am still stuck in The Witcher for lack of an emotional connection to anyone or anything.

Story now approaching 82k words and I'm taking a break by trying to fill a kinkmeme promptOooh, what stories are these two? Can you

That's the feeling I get from it, that it's a huge puppy bouncing around my feet, extremely pleased with itself when it puts a wet grassy branch in my lap and confused when I say I never asked for that...

I might have to check out this classic shell thing, because it was easy enough to get the computer to boot in desktop mode, but I do miss the start menu.

I'm writing a giant story about Seneschal Varel from Awakening, which... well, which would cover the end of the game except that it started after the second main questline and hasn't reached the third one yet. And it was just supposed to be a PWP. I'm not sure what happened.

But the kinkmeme thingy I did manage to keep short and sweet, yay, just a few thousand words about an alternate Alistair whose mission is to have sex with all the men in the game. Which is totally the kind of thing that could happen. Right?

I haven't actually checked out all of Classic Shells features, but even its basic functions have made Win8 a far more pleasant experience for me. It comes with a voluminous User's Guide to let you do a bunch of things intended to let you teach your clueless puppy some manners. You do not just drop wet grassy branches in people's laps, no! Bad OSy!
