To every thing there is a season

yuletide is back in business! Yay!

There are some changes this year, which you can read about here and here and here before you get involved with nominations here. There's also a brainstorming post for talking about potential fandoms.

My brain feels quite sufficiently stormed, though. Last night, I started out thinking there was only one thing I wanted to add/suggest/whatever, and that was Anthony Horowitz' Power of Five books, so I could ask for Richard/Matt. Whatever was I going to do with my other five nominations?

Then I looked at the brainstorming post, and the Ginormous List of Fandoms (tm), and my bookshelves, and stuff, and things... changed.

I mean, there's Coldfire. I think I've either asked for Coldfire, or written Coldfire, or both, for every year I've participated in yuletide, and it would be sad and wrong to break with tradition. (Especially since I'd really love it if I'd get a Coldfire story, which so far has not happened.) And although I've been amazingly lucky with my yuletide requests so far, and with seeing "leftover" requests written as New Year's Resolutions, there's always the list of stuff I've requested onceuponatime that was never picked up on: Bellairs' The face in the frost, f'rinstance, or something for The prisoner of Zenda.

Wodehouse, can't forget Wodehouse, although I'd have trouble picking a book series, and picking characters. (Don't you want to see Gally and Uncle Fred get in trouble together, back when they were younger? Or at any time, really.) Same with Heyer -- lots of possibilities there, and I just dither madly. Gil and Ferdy! Gideon and Gilly! Or some kind of metafic with all the crossdressers bonding with each other, Pru and Pen and Leonie and... Or something terribly wrong and bad with Kit and Evelyn and Cressy.

I probably won't put in Tove Jansson's Moomin books, even though I want a story about Moomin and Snufkin, just because I have trouble imagining such a story in English, and I don't suppose anyone will write me one in Swedish. And the same goes for the Ture Sventon books (although, Ture Sventon/Herr Omar 4-evah!).

Is Jurassic Park III still obscure? The oh-so-married sweetness of Alan and Billy is hard to resist. And I kind of have a yen for a story about Ali and Mahmoud Hazr from Laurie King's Mary Russell books. Or, ooh, another unfilled request from last year -- a Vorkosiganverse story about Ivan. I love Ivan.

And there's always Here is Greenwood, which is another of my yuletide stand-bys, like Coldfire. And I got all nostalgic for Once a Thief when I saw it in the list of fandoms. And Arthurian legend, mmm, and the heroic legend of Arslan. And Streets of Fire, because McCoy should have hooked up with Reva. (And I bet Raven would have loved to do something twisted to Tom, come to think about it.)

So that's 16 fandoms and I have six slots to use for nominations. Eep! Maybe I'll just close my eyes and point.

challenges, yuletide, unwritten
