Ongaku to hito 8/2005 Imai's Interview
Regarding the Lucy news, there're some tidbits from last month's Imai interview on Ongaku to Hito (the same one where Imai dragged Uta to ride 18 hours train home from Hokkaido, and Ichikawa ended up didn't do the interview there, instead they were eating crabs, drinking, watching Boowy and Stalin DVD ^^;;. The interview was conducted later at a soba place nearby Imai's house). I didn't read the actual magazine, I only heard it second hand from a friend (so i'm not sure about the accuracy). If anyone has the actual interview please share it with us on the BT list! XO Even though it's Imai's interview but turns out they talked more about Acchan. ^^;;;
Imai said Acchan's performance (13th Floor tour) was better than expectation because the gothic theme really fit him, Acchan was able to explore the flexibility and freedom. And when interviewer mention Acchan does possess sound of Buck-Tick, because he can expresses BT's world intensely. Imai said that he only completely realizes that during the tour. He always knew that in the back of his mind but the tour let his "body" (huh!?). ^^;; So when asked will that feeling have big influence on the band's future direction (as in: keep on doing goth or musical direction that evolving around fitting Acchan ^^;;) , Imai just laughed that off and gave ambiguous answer "who knows!?"
Through out the interview Ichikawa keeps on pounding the question of "Acchan's influence." (he loves to confront Imai about Acchan geez) Imai said, all these years the band's direction was determined by Imai's casual decision of what he wanna do at that time, so it's just so happen this time it matches up with Acchan. And Ichikawa said, "So now you do realize Acchan's color (= his essence, presence) in BT are very strong?" Imai admited "oh yes, very deep! ^^;; I didn't notice that until now." Ichikawa said "huhuhu~ You only realize that after 20 years together, it must be the solo!" (doesn't he sound like "see you do realize your wife's importance after she had an affair!"). Imai said yes, so that's why when he saw acchan's solo, he had the "EH!?" strangest feeling. Imai said when they return together they can make a very beautiful album together. Buck-Tick has always been evolving around Acchan as center. Ichikawa later pound again "so from this tour, after all these years the members should strongly notice Acchan has always anchored's BT's world. Imai said he thinks everyone realizes that, but if they said that out loud maybe they'd end up deliberately tried to deviate to opposite direction. (Ichikawa said "opposite direction, you mean like rap?" Imai said that's absolutely IMPOSSIBLE, he thinks Acchan completely does not have any rap's rhythm whatsoever XDDD).
So what next for BT...Imai kept thinking during the tour but he doesn't have any idea yet! Yet he already decided on working on new Lucy. Kiyoshi and Okazaki already know it.
Imai found the "Home sweet home" feeling returning from solo very interesting. He especially feel that during the 13th floor tour. He said Acchan is the type who'd think of any way to do his best, even he cried constantly about the difficulty of certain songs, how there's no breathing room (Ichikawa scold Imai: "The one who wrote such song is YOU right!?" ^^;;;).
Imai mentioned about in the band, he can't give 100% himself, he has to suppressed 100% of himself even though it's so much easier if he were to do everything). He tried not to think that way because he'd feel suffocated.
When asked whether Lucy and other members' solo will drag behind BT's pace. Imai said no, in fact that'd make them even more fully charged and productive. Imai said "if you don't believe me let's get Acchan over here right now! He lives close by anyway! Meeting meeting! Charged! Go!" XD
As to how to balance between Lucy and BT, Imai said he'd work hard for both side. But his home is BT, and there's always Hoshino always looking after home (the only one who doesn't have solo projects XD). He'd drop by occasionally like relative visiting.
