Bisto Con 2016, #2

Aug 23, 2016 16:55

Friday is BC's official starting point. We had accomplished a lot of what needed doing on Thursday (food shopping, bag packing) but setting up our meeting room for the weekend came next and we used Friday morning to accomplish that. We had an extra round table--needed 4, not 5--so I folded that up and stowed it away, and realized that we were short on rectangular tables--had 2, needed 4. Ah, joy. Folks began shifting and toting the various things needed into the room: coolers, food, electronic gear, markers, reg forms, posters small and large, goodie sacks, and more. A group of folks led by krisserci5 tackled putting the large rasterized poster of Bodie and Doyle together, with the added challenge that the sheets had not been numbered when they were taken down 2 years ago. They persevered in figuring out the picture, numbered the sheets so we won't have this problem again, and put together the large poster (6 foot by 8 foot) only for me to ask them to move it higher on the wall, to make it easier for our game later on of "pin the ----- on the agent." What can I say--I wanted taller people to have a chance to win! sc_fossil set up our ice container, przed set up the projector and DVD player for our first episode watching time slot, and people continued to ferry food and goods into the room right up until noon, when registration started.

Registration went quickly and calmly even with a few new steps thrown in this year like figuring out and signing up for Saturday's pizza lunch and Sunday's middle eastern lunch. BCers rose to the challenge of making and paying for food selections and then launched into the first get-to-know-you game that ran while registration continued. I'm not sure we found anyone who could claim to have read every Bodie/Doyle story on AO3; maybe someone will have accomplished that by 2018! After a welcome to the con and an opportunity for people to be introduced to each other, we had the first episode watching session. The episode was chosen by online poll and the winner was "In the Public Interest" and przed led the discussion that followed.
