#259 master's sun (review + a lot of random thoughts)

Plot: Basically, Tae Gong Sil was blessed with the ability to see ghosts after an accident which affected her daily life, until she meets Joo Joong Won, someone who is able to make the ghosts disappear. But JJW has an ugly past, which may require Gong Shil's ability......This plot was a breath of fresh air, although it did play along the lines of a recycled story about a ditzy girl and  a rich guy. It had a supernatural side which i like, love it when dramas explore realms other than rich guy poor girl arc (aka the Heirs). I mean....the whole thing's gonna be a drama, might as well add aliens! ghosts! x-ray vision! Then again it has to be believable.....I love it when scriptwriters + directors are able to make the unbelievable, well, believable - which is exactly what this drama is about. I was sold by the second episode.
The whole Cha Hee Joo/villain thing was just something to bring them together, but imo i'm glad they didn't drag it out and make it the whole central of the story with crazy twists like how a makjang would be. I can already envision how: Secretary Kim turning over to the bad side, etc. I get that it was supposed to be a ~mystery~ and all but honestly? I really wasn't very interested in that whole arc. Maybe its because in my eyes JJW has obviously moved on from the whole hee joo situation (whether he realises/shows it or not). That whole part was a little bit patchy and could have been fleshed out more but hey, I ain't complaining, because I'm not very interested haha

This drama, to be honest, doesn't have much of a strong plot, but the characters was what kept it going, and it went far.

Cast/Characters: This drama placed a lot of emphasis on character growth and really fleshed out JJW and TGS. I hardly ever felt shortchanged throughout the drama or questioned any of the character's actions or thoughts (like I always do in other dramas, something along the lines of "wtf why are you doing that??") because it was that well explained, well thought of, that i could understand where they were coming from and connect with them. I loved how they gave characters a quirk, even supporting ones.

My favourite character has got to be JJW! I loved his stupid hand movement (꺼져~) and his snark. So Ji Sub really made a perfect JJW, couldn't think of anyone better. I loved how JJW slowly changed throughout the course of the drama, from a self-centered money grabber to a more....softhearted, loving guy. He allows people in, and shows his affection (that cute hug for Secretary Kim? I SQUEALED) and appreciation more. And his jealousy towards Kang Candy is just so adorable. I especially like how he realises that he's fallen for Gong Shil, slowly....then all at once.

So snarky!!! I love hahaha.
But as much as i love the snark of JJW, my favourite, favourite scene of his has got to be that one scene in Episode 15 where he realises that TGS has never once said that she loved him. It was so broken, so poignant, so raw and real and in that brief moment he allows himself to cry, just a little bit, because damn it he loves that girl. I really felt like my heart got rolled over by a tractor in that scene......

I honestly thought the lead girl (Tae Gong Shil) was going to be ditzy, clumsy, messy.....the typical "unattractive" k-drama girl and i was put off by the first few episodes but she was so lovable and it was so so so endearing, i could see why JJW fell for her! I enjoyed watching her, really think Gong Hyo Jin was perfect for the role. And as compared to JJW i think her character growth was more pronounced and even addressed. It reminds me of Kelly Rowland's comment on Alex & Sierra (woohoo fandom clash):

"i love watching woman grow, and i love watching you blossom"

I loved watching her blossom. In ep 15 I was wondering, why would she even leave when JJW obviously loves her, what does she have to prove? Was really quite agitated (i was really into it ahahha) until she said this

DAMN it hit me. Hard. I had to screenshot that line because it was so. damn. relatable.

Also bonus dialogue that i love: "I love you, but I love myself first" DAMN RIGHT this is what Kdramas have to promote more, it's really heartening to see such a strong female lead especially after all the weak, spineless heroines (ha ha, ironic) we have in dramas whose life literally revolves around their love.

Random things i love: THE ENDING ARC. So so so good, neatest, well-explained, fluffiest, most satisfying ending in the whole of kdrama i have ever watched!!!! I loved how they touched on her loving him for him and not for what he provides her (i.e the safety shelter). I loved how Kang Woo and Yi Ryeong got together and how he went on the red carpet for her, and I loved how insecure Yi Ryeong was despite her popularity + celebrity status, it really shows a different side of her, made her more realistic and lovable really. I loved how everyone deserving gets a happy ending, i loved it so much, i loved everything about it hahaha can't stop raving.

THE OST! I REALLY LOVE THE OST.

Wow i really didnt expect this to be so long???? Well. #Priorities.
