You probably won't notice because my timestamps are in the Pacific time zone, but I put off starting this post until 0100 hours. I still maintain steadfastly that it's still today if I haven't been to bed. I just don't feel like writing tonight. I feel like chatting with people on the other side of the world and
shopping for project bags. (I'm totally in love with
this carryon. It's pricey but worth it and would totally work for crocheting on planes. Or anywhere else.)
Okay, I'm done coveting horribly expensive accessories. On to the crocheting.
It turned out that my swatching yesterday worked and my plan for Bleeding Heart worked out perfectly. My bleeding hearts look like little christmas trees...but I still think they look pretty good. The photos were taken early this afternoon when it was still light out, but I did quite a bit of crocheting today and managed to get one whole repeat (out of two) completed.
Backlit, with two rows of Bleeding Heart complete:
Attempting to show the pattern:
It's getting big enough that it really looks better on the eiderdown:
I swatched! For reals:
The pattern isn't nearly as impressive on the swatch as it is in the round.
Gratuitous kitty picture (Gandalf and Soth):
It's funny (and I blame it on designing mode) but now that I have the problems with this portion of the chart figured out the actual work seems boring. I'm enjoying watching my pattern develop but at the same time I'm itching to tackle the challenges of Madeira. I don't know if it's my masochism showing or if I really haven't been challenging myself enough lately. Either way my goal is to finish Bleeding Heart this weekend and tackle the lovely leaves of Madeira on Monday.
I'm so excited because after only a couple of days I have commenter questions to answer!
Q: Are you going to write up a pattern so the rest of us can go insane, too?
A: I'm taking notes as I go (more or less) and by the time I have the second prototype done I hope to have good working directions. If there's interest I may release it in stages and we can do it CAL-style! (This has been the most common question to date.)
Q: Are you going to do all those beads?
A: I'm working in fuzzy, splitty DK-weight acrylic. There's no way in Hades I'm stringing beads onto it. When I have the design all worked up I'm going to save up and buy myself some
Sea Silk and pretty glass beads and make a "final draft".
Q: You're not kidding when you use words like "ridiculous" and "insane" are you?
A: Nope.
And now a question for y'all. I desperately, urgently need a second project for decompressing. (Have you seen that faggot lace border?) What, dear friends, do you think I should pick up in the meantime? (And Kris? "knitting" isn't the answer I'm looking for here.)
