I see them when I close my eyes at night, I see them when I'm watching football (that's soccer for us Americans) on the telly, I see them when I'm attempting to read my novel. I am in the midst of trying to adapt a ridiculously complicated knitted lace shawl to crochet and my mind is happily off in another world designing other pieces.
One of these I'm going to blame on the
Yarn Harlot. (Sorry, Stephanie.) She had a twitter yesterday musing about how long it would take to crochet a tablecloth and it got me thinking. Now I have ideas in my head for both an oval and a rectangular lace tablecloth done in DK weight. (Unfortunately I can't do thread work anymore. My eyes and my hands refuse utterly.)
I was also looking at a ripple pattern somewhere in my wanderings and got the brilliant idea to combine cross stitch with the ripple pattern. I feel that I absolutely must swatch this immediately for the good of all fiber artists...but I have to go to the yarn shop first because I'm out of light colored worsted. I miss having a stash, but I'm not completely bummed out about needing to go yarn shopping.
I have the feeling there will probably be others. I can feel them queuing up in the back of my head. Does anyone out there know of chart-generating software for crochet? It would make my life a million times easier, and I assure you all...crocheting the Shipwreck (I love calling it that) from a chart will be infinitely easier than trying to follow written directions.
(As an aside for the chart-phobic among us,
Halia was the first piece I ever crocheted using a chart instead of written instructions and it was a wonderful experience. For some things I will probably still prefer longhand but for mirror images or fussy repeats charts are the way to go.)
Speaking of the Shipwreck, it is not quite on the shoals, though the water looked a little shallow there for a minute. I spent this afternoon swatching while I read along with Edmond Dantes and I think I have a workable solution. It's not going to look exactly the same, and my Bleeding Hearts look the tiniest bit like trees...but I think they'll be pretty and I can sneak enough increases in there to keep from ending up with a funky, lacy bowl.
It is now half past eleven here and I'm about shot. A quick bite of supper and it's bed for me...tomorrow I'll pick up Shipwreck again and with any luck there will be pictures.
