Working at the Strand has been a lot better recently. I just have to avoid one of my managers, Joyce, who is a huge bitch. She's old and crotchety. Not that old. Like, fifty, fifty five, say. But she looks bad. I bet she has no family. I bet she only has a little yappy dog that she yells at when she's mad about how lonely and sucky her life is.
But other than her, things are pretty fun. There've been three new people recently, so I recommend applying for a job because apparently people are always coming and going. One new girl is even younger than me, which is shocking. Her name is Bonnie, she just turned 18 in May. I made fun of her for being so young. She's going to UPenn. She's pretty annoying, actually. She went to Brearley for a little while but then a boarding school I'd never heard of but she remembered Alex Schwartz.
So everyone come visit me at the Strand!
Ben's been practically living here lately, which is very nice. Sleeping over every night, going home in the day time, and then coming to meet me at the Strand when I get off. My schedule, by the way, is Mon-Wed: 9:30 AM- 6:30 PM Thurs, Friday off, Sat: 1:30-10:30 and Sunday 11:00 AM- 8:00 PM. Also, on all days but Saturday, come see me at 1:30 PM so I can eat lunch with you in Union Square. I have an hour off. Like a working man.
Last night I went to a Willie Nelson/Bob Dylan concert. I didn't even know Willie Nelson was playing, but apparently, he was. I thought he was pretty good, actually. It was fun to be in Lakeview, NJ with a bunch of middle aged hippies. Bob Dylan... well, some of it was fun. We got up really close, I counted five heads in front of mine, and you could make out all his wrinkles and such. He just wasn't really performing. He's given up playing the guitar, now he just plays keyboard and says all the words to his songs at odd times, not singing at all. The only time he spoke to the audience was to introduce the other members of the band. I don't know, it was still very cool to see him, to be twenty feet away from him. I called Lizzie so that she could listen to Queen Jane, but she was very disoriented by my calls, perhaps she could not hear the music. Ah well.
Oh yeah, and I finally figured out that I could get a chicago e-mail address, so I chose jkardon@uchicago.edu . Amusingly enough, I keep accidentally typing @ecfs.org. Guess I'll have to stop that nonsense.
