What are those voices in your head? Podcasts, silly!
Podcasts according to wikipedia are "a series of audio or video digital media files which is distributed over the Internet by syndicated download, through Web feeds, to portable media players and personal computers."
I personally like to call them talky things to listen to when I don't like the singy things. But that's just me.
Why would you get into podcasts? Because they're free, they're fun, they're educational -- they can be simply put - just about anything. You can find them at the iTunes store, on individual websites or places such as
Podcast Alley. I'll share my favourite podcasts with you now.
Cort & Fatboy (on
iTunes here) is a podcast of an afternoon radio show in Portland, Oregon. If you're a BSG fan like
anno_superstar who introduced me to them, you should probably be listening already, but if you just like funny, geeky things, you'll like them. And once you get into them, they are a tough habit to kick. The weekly schedule goes as such: on Mondays they battle it out -- with songs, on Tuesdays they squat, on Wednesdays Fatboy either rocks at knowing movies or is renamed Failboy (and there's beer that nobody outside can buy so eff you,
Daren), on Thursdays a character named
Byron Beck comes on to flirt with Fatboy and try to convince the boys of their gayness, on Fridays the illuminati of Portland walk in to discuss
movies,
b-movies &
comics.
Every now and then somebody calls in asking to blow Cort, Fatboy ends up pronouncing an English word like a Chinese dish because wordiness is next to godliness, fights break out over umlauts, Gremlins & Snoop Dogg, somebody famous gets interviewed (from Bruce Campbell to Kevin Smith to Henry Rollins to Chuck Palahniuk) and discussions about sex on bikes, whether Obama is Ackbar or Lando, final answers to eternal questions like Mac vs PC, zombies, candy commercials as mass hallucinations.. I could go on forever. Just
listen, you fools.
I recommend April 15th of last year, April 3rd of last year, September 9th of last year, The Live Army of Darkness Show (November 7th, 2008) or the Live Ghostbusters Show (October 3rd, 2008).

Filmi Girl's Mix Tape is a podcast of Bollywood songs old and new compiled, introduced and critiqued by
filmi_girl. This is new so you can catch up very easily! I'd recommend this to existing Bollywood fans and people who are curious about Bollywood music in general. My favourite episode so far was episode 2 on Filmi Rock. :)

Friday Night Comedy from BBC 4, as the name suggests, is a radio comedy panel show filled with various faces of British comedy as panelists, going through the week's news. Good stuff, though naturally some cultural references fly over my unBritish head.

Geek in the City Radio, formerly known as Film Fever Radio is another podcast from Portland or should I say Podland, oh ho ho ..aand shitty jokes aside, Aaron and Scott geek out about films, regail tales of Aaron's slurpy fail, talk comics, movie news and whatnot. They're branching out into all things awesome from just movies. I recommend The Last Episode, Episode 124 - Car Wars & Trek Nerdality or any of the October shows from last year. Check it out!

Love Bollywood is a BBC Asian Network podcast where two British-Indian guys run through all the Bollywood gossip of the week, review one of the latest Bollyfilms and talk to a star/star-to-be/star-wannabe of some sort. I'd recommend older shows but the website fails to list them. All Bollywood fans, just download it!

SModcast is a podcast filled with ramblings by director Kevin Smith and his producer pal Scott Mosier. This is like the Kevin Smith movie that never happened, our two heroes chewin' the fat about profane, weird and hilarious hypotheticals, with just the sort of vague homoeroticism you'd expect from them. This is simply some excellent shit.
