I wrote "you, me and none of the others" in FAKE (manga) for mechaieh.
As luck would have it, I went around the recipient's IJ a lot, reading their thoughts on the manga and the characters, and was inspired and yet terrified my characterizations wouldn't be as thought-through as I'd never meta'ed FAKE (just read it and loved it). So I didn't get anything written, and then life got very busy (damn holiday job + uni things!) and then the deadline was fast approaching. I wasn't going to default because I've done yuletide for many years and I'd hate to miss it next year, so instead I cranked out whatever ideas I had into vignettes, composed a story of them and turned that one in. I wish I could've made those ideas into a more together story, but sometimes fragments is all I can do.
As always, it could be better but I am glad that at least 10 people enjoyed it enough to comment and most importantly, my recipient seemed to enjoy it. :)
I forgot to credit this one when I submitted the story, but basically regarding the whole "Ryo used to be a sniper" thing, initially I was reminded of this by the recipient's IJ and then I just typed "being a sniper" into google (because I didn't have the time to track down the book about snipers that the recipient mentioned reading) and got this: http://www.snipercountry.com/hottips/Youngsters.htm - written by an actual sniper, and their answer worked its way into Ryo's thoughts.
It was quite lovely to write FAKE for the first time, and also get to know the continuation the series had gotten because I'd never heard of it until I got the assignment. It really is the best shounen ai anything I've ever read, in terms of characterization, plot etc.
