Sunlight

Woot! I found a really old story i worked on stupendously long ago. It sucks, but i thought this little bit was pretty amusing. So, i present to you..

(a little part of) Sunlight
D-Grayman Fiction
Allen/Rinali/Rabi Gen.

Allen flexed his arms and legs as he prepared himself.

“Are you sure you want to do this?” Rinali asked, watching slightly nervously.

“No sweat,” he shook his head, laughing as he did squats. Next to him, Rabi was limbering up too, and the boys gave each other menacing looks before turning back to their warm ups.

“You'll would have to feed him the entire week if he wins,” Rinali said.

Allen shook his head. “He’d have to do the same,” he shrugged, smiling. Rinali sighed, turning to Rabi pointedly. Rabi turned away and pretended not to have heard that.

“Don’t worry Rinali. I’ll beat him," Allen nodded.

Rinali paused and looked at him for a moment. The boys had abandoned their coats at the cart where Bookman had negotiated a ride to the next town; Allen had his sleeves rolled up and tie tossed on the ground next to him. He smiled, and his eyes became squinty as he rubbed the back of his neck lightly, like he would when he was thinking or concentrating.

“Okay,” she nodded. She walked into the space between the two boys, took two steps backward so she was standing in front of them.

“Ready,” she called, as she raised her arm.

Rabi made a ‘vroom’ sound under his breath. Allen kept his eyes on the goal, a large oak tree a few hundred meters ahead of them. The sun was rising just above that; Rabi said the sun in their eye added to the challenge.

“Set,” she took in a deep breath and waved her arm downwards. “GO!”

The boys took off running. She turned around and watched as they disappeared into the morning light.
