family.... Yea!

Spent the weekend Up North at my dad's place. RRRR.... family is so much fun. (insert sarcastic eye-roll here). My almost-4-year-old nephew kept us all on our toes with his bad mood. This is the one who has been swearing and hitting and spitting for nearly a year now. Tell him to do something and your lucky if he igores you. It's usually "shut up" or "NO!!!!". When we are alone, just the two of us, he's great. If he acts out I do the Nanny-911 thing. Get down to eye level... tell him it's not okay, and give him a warning. If he's whining I say "I'm sorry I can't hear little boys who whine. Can you say that again." I am always surprised when these methods work because his parents' dicsipline is soooo inconsistent that he a a holy living terror when they are around.

Then my father spouting on and on about how bad my Nephew is, and how he was such a great parent. Then he sits and calls the three-year-old names, and laughs at him for getting mad. I nearly lost it!!! This "great parent" who was absolutely clueless and barely spoke to me during my teen years, and now he sits all high and mighty.... RRRRRRRR!!!!!

My cousin's kid is also a handful. Swearing, spitting, manipulating. He's 6. His dad bought him a tee-shirt that says "My mouth has a mind of it's own". He's teaching the little one all of his favorite tricks. He was using a sling-shot to shoot pebbles at my dad's windows. My dad came out and told him "you break it, you buy it." The kid responded "yeah, right!" What a joy.

The list goes on and on.... Dad, Brother, Sister-in-law, Nephew, Niece, Cousin, Cousin's two kids and one of thier friends, Sister-in-laws brother with down's syndrome, and finnaly grandma. All on a weekend where it got to 100 degrees. Granted, we have many buidings up there, and were not all together every muinute of every day.

See Ya
