First Impressions

So last semester I took a 300-level poetry writing course. It was probably the best class I ever took, and it made me decide I wanted to go to grad school for poetry. Since I already took the highest-level poetry class offered at my college, I decided to step down to a 200-level for my last semester here. Just to keep in shape, you know? Workshops are always valuable.

Anyway, I just got an email from my new professor, who I haven't met yet. Our first class is Tuesday... and she assigned us work. Due on the first class. That... that just shouldn't happen.

Also, she's assigning a reading every week "written by me." She has that all over her syllabus, "authored by me," "written by me." I'd heard of professors so arrogant that they actually assign textbooks they'd written and such, and I'd occassionally have a professor hand out an essay they authored with a lot of blushing and apologizing as they did so. But I've never actually had a professor who made herself out to be the primary text of the course. It just seems like a tacky thing to do.

I mean, what does she think is going to happen? Here's how I envision every class going:

"So, what did you all think of the reading I assigned?"
"It was wonderful!"
"I loved it!"
"So insightful, person who will be single-handedly determining my grade!"
