So, yesterday was my 21st birthday. Since all of my friends are either under-age or out-of-state, I ended up flying solo. My night was probably what most would consider disappointing, but I enjoyed it well enough. My plan was to go to the Bell-in-Hand, a place that purports to be the oldest bar in America. Once I got there, however, it was pretty disappointing. I think they were rennovating, or something; only one of its rooms was open, and the bar itself was crowded with drunken assholes.
Union Street is basically a row of bars, though, so I wandered into a nearby one, called The Point. It was a sort of sports bar, loaded with a bunch of Red Sox memorabilia and flatscreens showing baseball. It was practically deserted, but for whatever reason, I decided to settle down there. Both my siblings had suggested a Manhattan, so I ordered one up. The bartender chuckled and said, "At 21, I couldn't even spell Manhattan." I watched the Red Sox game, and drank it slowly, and it was very, very good. I ordered a second one, and then a third. By now I was tired and frankly bored, so I left and stumbled home, pleasantly buzzed.
Hardly a blow-out, but with me, it never is.
It's probably a good thing I didn't get hammered, either. Somebody set off the fire alarm in the LB at like 8 AM this morning, which was annoying enough without a hangover.
Anyway, we just had the standard start of the year floor meeting for the dorm. I asked what the policy on alcohol is, and they showed me the part in the handbook. We're only allowed to have small quantities of alcohol... only a six-pack at a time, or an equivalent amount of wine or liquor. This sucks, because I was hoping to get a couple of bottles of liquor and some other junk and experiment with cocktails, rather than paying bar-prices to find my favorite drink. It'd also be nice to have a bit of selection in the event of company.
I'm not sure what the rule accomplishes, other than making me go to the liquor store more often than I normally would. Meh. I may have to just break it. Heh, I mean, it's not like I didn't last year.
