Dear Guy Who Always Mispronounces A Particular Word,
You know, I can relate. I have an odd pseudo-foreign accent I picked up who-knows-where and sometimes when I try to use words I've only ever encountered in print before in spoken conversation, I completely mangle them by putting emphasis on all the wrong syllables. Maybe you don't say it the way you do because you're pretentious. I'm not gonna mock you for your mistake. However:
"Banal" rhymes with "anal." It does not rhyme with "Duvall" (as in Shelley). It especially doesn't have some kind of weird, pseudo-French inflection anywhere in it. It's not "buh-NAHLLLe," okay? Don't (metaphorically) pat my head and tell me my metaphors are "rather buh-NAHLLLe." I won't be able to take the criticism very seriously.
Your fellow poetry dork,
Fitz Clementine
