Must have walked MILES today. But in an awesome way.
My first solo Wicked visit. Heck my first solo theatre visit.
Up in London WAY early so decided to get off the tube at the wrong park Green Park and go a-wandering. Ended up going to Victoria via Green Park, Buckingham Palace, the edge of St James' Park, the Royal Mews and a few thousand Starbucks (FYI, I didn't go into the thousands of Starbucks, just passed them). Much amusement at Birdcage Walk when the traffic was disrupted by what I have now found out to be the "Tweed Run" bike ride. About 400 cycles worth of people in period costumes and stuff. Including a fair few penny farthings. It was EPIC to witness.
Picked up my ticket and had a peek at the cast board as they were putting the only change info out (U/S for Dr Dillamond) so had a little (okay, big but quiet) YAY moment at all the people I REALLY wanted to see being on (Rachel, Louise, Mark and Clive basically).
It was still AGES before the show so I went for another wander. Ended up taking in more touristy sights of London. Stopped off to look at (the outside of) Westminster Cathedral which is BEAUTIFUL before carrying on down to Westminster Abbey. Spent a small fortune in the gift shop there (on Royal Wedding stuff!) before heading back up to the theatre.
OH MY GOSH I LOVE this show. Still. Got talking to the people beside me before it and said it was my fifth time, they were astounded.
Generally I loved the New Cast. Mark Evans was brilliant as Fiyero. And not meaning to be deeply shallow (did ya see what I did there, did ya? did ya???) but my god the man has a good arse. Those white trousers left very little to the imagination. I think I'll need another viewing or two before I can truly state if I prefer Lee or Mark (any excuse!). I prefer Lee's hair at least! LOL. During As Long as You're Mine he was a lot more touchy (hands always moving) than I remember watching Lee being. Of course it could be that I just never paid Lee much attention, or at least his hands.
New!Nessa (Zoe?) was also BRILLIANT. Wicked Witch of the Easy was especially shiny.
New!Boq (I can't remember, and the programme is more than an arms reach away!) Now this is where the problem lies. I was completely smitten with George Ure's Boq, so New!Boq lost many many points because he was constantly compared in my mind to the adorableness. I always knew this would be the most difficult change for me. He was good, don't get me wrong. But I just didn't enjoy him as much, he didn't make me care about Boq.
U/S!Dr D (Gareth something or other) was also brilliant. Enjoyed a lot more than I expected.
Old!Wizard and Old!Morrible were as fantastic as ever. Clive was being especially prancy in Wonderful. *big grins*
Glinda (the GA is silent) - incredible. I swear Popular gets sillier every time I watch. She makes me laugh so much.
Saved the best to last of course. Elphaba, aka Rachel Tucker. I am fast running out of words to describe how astounding and incredible this woman is. Every time she blows my mind, she really does. This was no exception. The Wizard and I was especially awesome today and once more Defying Gravity reduced me to a whimpering, crying mess. No Good Deed remains my favourite in the show. For Good was exceptional this afternoon as well.
So yes, still good. I just miss Lee Mead's hair and George Ure!
