A/N: For the 7spells prompt challenge, 3/7, July 1971 fresh out of school she goes to visit her family and tells them she’s fallen in love - naturally her family get angry.

Today’s the day. Andromeda thought, I’m going to go in there, and tell my family that I’m engaged to Ted, and more importantly, that I love him with all my heart. She drew herself up to her full height, hid any stray emotions behind a well practised mask and moved a step closer 12 Grimmauld Place.

When she reached the door she took a deep breath and rang the bell, she hoped that her family wouldn’t be too mad, but she knew that it was utterly pointless to think that they would be anything other than mad. She had fallen in love with a muggleborn of course, and naturally Narcissa had told their parents everything, as she was wont to do. Andromeda could always counter that their precious little flower had lost her virginity to Malfoy years ago, but that wasn’t the argument that they would have - not unless they decided to disown her of course.

"Andromeda, we weren’t expecting you." Auntie said as she kicked Kreacher out of the way, so that she could open the door and greet Andromeda herself.

"Lovely to see you too Auntie." Andromeda said, as she kissed each of her aunt’s cheeks the way she had been taught to.

"Well come in dear, can’t have you standing in the cold." Yet. She thought dully as she was ushered into the drawing room, where she saw her mother, younger sister and two cousins, she assumed that her father and uncle were in the library doing manly things. She took the seat and cup of tea she was offered and helped herself to one of the biscuits that lay on an ancient Black family plate - complete with the family crest.

"Was there something you wanted in particular dear?" Her mother asked as she sat primly in the ancient armchair, hands folded in her lap, cup of tea balanced on the arm, an uneaten biscuit perched on the saucer.

"Yes actually, I’m sure that Bellatrix will have told you by now that I have not been conducting myself properly. I thought that you may like me to explain my actions in person, rather than Bella over-exaggerating them." Andromeda forced herself to be confident and to not waver under her mother and aunt’s gazes.

"So you are admitting to cavorting with the mudblood?" Her mother asked with tight lipped disgust clear on her face.

"Tonks is not a mudblood, he may be muggleborn but I would never call him a mudblood. And we have not been cavorting, I love him." Andromeda whispered gently.

"You love him?" Her aunt bellowed, her cousins ran from the room and mild mannered Narcissa followed at a more sedate pace.

"Yes, he’s clever, witty, charming and handsome." She knew that it would all be in vain, they would not allow her to be a Black and in love with a muggleborn, she had a feeling that she would be blown off the tree like few had before her.

"That does not matter, he is not worthy of you, and you have lowered yourself in being with him. You have not given yourself to him have you?" her aunt asked with barely disguised morbid curiosity, as if muggles had a different anatomy to that of a wizard.

"So what if I have, I understood that it was allowed if one was engaged."

"Engaged?" Her mother asked, she looked as if she had been broken, she had not believed that Bellatrix was telling the truth about her favourite daughter, she had hoped that Bellatrix was only looking for attention.

"Yes mother, engaged. He proposed last night, and I thought that you might want to know - in case you wanted to attend." Andromeda tried to reach out to her mother - while she also tried to keep calm and collected - she knew that her aunt was a lost cause, but her mother was a possibility.

"No, Druella, if she intends to marry this bastard then she must be removed from the family tree, and all of our thoughts." Aunt said wickedly, as she started to get up from her chair. Andromeda looked to her mother.

"Walburga, please, she may change her mind." Druella said with a sob.

"No, she has made up her mind have you not girl?" Andromeda nodded at her aunt, who withdrew her wand and pointed it at the tree. “Very well then, you shall be removed from our lives, and I will draw a new ward to keep you out of this house.” Her aunt added angrily.

"Walburga please." Her mother said desperately, as she looked wildly from Andromeda to Walburga.

"No, it shall be done, she is no longer a Black, she gave up that privilege when she let herself be defiled by a mudblood." Walburga growled as she burnt Andromeda off the family tree. "She is no longer pure - you know the motto Druella."

Andromeda couldn’t bear it any longer, she put her cup down delicately and left the room, she left her mothers cries behind her and sat on the bottom step for a minute. She spied Sirius in the corner and called him to her. "Make me proud Siri, I know you will, one day. But I have to leave now, you’ll see me again one day - and I’ll send you an invite to the wedding, I’m sure I can ask Professor Dumbledore to let you out of school." She said to him quietly, and gave him a hug. Then she stood up and left Sirius perched on the step, he gazed wonderingly after her as she shut the heavy door of 12 Grimmauld Place for the last time.
