Well, the house modifications are now showing progress. Amy and I decided to refinish the hardwood floors on our ground level before moving in at the end of September. However, this first required ripping up carpet in the living room and linoleum tile in the dining room (it's really just one long room, but artificially subdivided by the flooring). Last Sunday with the help of my in-laws, we tore up the carpet really quickly and started in on the tile. The 12" square tiles were apparently applied just like stickers with a peel-off back. When they're pulled up they leave a nice super tacky residue. We finished clearing the old flooring today, with Amy and her dad going at the tiles and me taking all of the nails/staples/trim off the floor. Tomorrow we will cut up two damaged boards and replace them.
It's really fun having a place of our own to work on! Buildings are quite customizable, more so than I at first imagined. Just about everything can be torn down and rebuilt to look like new. Although, it's going to feel strange taking a circular saw to our floor. It takes so little time to make your house look like crap, but so long to fix it up again.
