Dudes, I am on such a Conan high lately. Today I watched his Inside the Actor's Studio episode and I laughed harder than I did during the Robin Williams one. Conan is amazing. I &hearts him. He's wicked intelligent too, which I already knew, but it's something you kind of forget when he's jumping around like a lovable clown all the time. But anyway, he was hilarious. Greatest ep of Inside the Actors Studio that I've ever seen. The end even made me tear up a little bit. I have no idea why I never saw this back in January. Hmph.
Anywho, last night's Tonight Show? Where he dressed up like an old dude and moderated the focus groups of seniors? Oh god. Hilarious, but ooooooh how I felt for him. He sat through who knows how many hours of people calling him a moron that needs psychiatric help. My heart kind of broke for him when that one guy was like, "Whoever made the decision to promote this guy obviously needs to be fired." Oh man. And Conan just kept ragging on himself the entire time, and then one person even suggested that Conan was a sociopath. OH GOD. I kept waiting for Conan to take off his disguise and be like, "Hahahaha, IT'S ME!" but he never did. :( And the end where he's banging his head, guh. I don't know how he could do that to himself. I mean, he knew all that stuff would happen, which was the point of the entire bit, but those people were seriously harsh. Pah, seniors don't stay up that late anyway. The 11:30 hour needs to change with the times. I never understood Jay Leno's appeal, and I don't think I ever will. I've never liked Letterman either. My parents, on the other hand, much prefer Leno and Letterman to Conan. They just... don't get Conan. *sigh* So it's definitely an age thing. Or perhaps it's about classiness, I don't know. Conan's all about making a fool out of himself and making the comedy happen with the audience, while Leno is more about playing to the audience with scripted jokes and whatnot.
But anyway, my favorite new bit that he's been doing since he started The Tonight Show? Twitter Tracker. I don't think I will ever stop laughing at this utter nonsense:
Oooooh, I love it. 1) Because I still find Twitter annoying, and 2) because that dude's insane enthusiasm will never fail to make me laugh.
Also, things I've realized that I will seriously miss now that Conan is no longer in New York:
1) Abe Vigoda on a tiny bicycle.
2) Spontaneous appearances from James Lipton in a tutu.
3) 30 Rock's automated telephone system that always sends Conan to the wrong extension because it can't understand anything he says (anyone else remember that bit? I miss that so freaking much)
4) Conan randomly bothering Brian Williams
5) Jokes about New York. I just don't get the jokes about LA. IT'S ALL THE WAY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COUNTRY. I don't pay attention to it (except for the celebrity news, obviously).
I'm sure there's more. The horny manatee, S&M Lincoln, Masturbating Bear... I'm still holding out hope though that he hasn't retired all the Late Night mascots. Anywho, I love having Conan back. LOVE IT. Summers and winters seem to be my prime Conan addiction times, I guess because all of my seasonal shows are on hiatus.
OH! I watched Jimmy Fallon last night since Will Ferrell was on it, and oooooh how I loved Will. Jimmy still kind of bothers me though. He always has. I don't dislike him, I just... don't love him. Like, when he was singing that song during the sketch where Will came out in the blond wig, I thought, "Oh hahahaha, I'm enjoying this," but the dude kept singing the same line for 3 minutes at this annoyingly high pitch and I seriously could not take it anymore. Luckily Will was being ridiculous enough to make me not care about Jimmy's annoyingness. The interview was good though, you could tell they enjoy each other's antics. But, yeah, I'm not digging Jimmy Fallon. But I never dug him on SNL, so that's no surprise. But I'm hoping that he ends up finding some way to be more entertaining. I know it's his first year and he's struggling to find what works and what doesn't. I guess I'll watch him every now and then, but odds are I'll start watching Craig Ferguson if I'm still in the mood for more late night after Conan.
WOW. So did not mean to make a gigantic boring post about Conan O'Brien. But there you go. At least I provided a HI-larious clip. That is probably only viewable to those in the USA...
