So a couple of days ago, my parents informed me that the cute little folk instrument store where I bought my guitar is going out of business. Tonight they went and bought a hammer dulcimer at a discounted price--apparently Dad had been eyeballing them for a long time, they had some extra money, and, well, no time like the present, right?
And while they were there, they checked on prices of mandolins.
Which is good and bad. I had talked myself out of buying one for the time being, but there are some that may actually be in my price range, and, hey, no time like the present, right? I'd probably get a good deal on a high quality (albeit beginner) one, and it would be one more step towards my ultimate goal of world dominat--er, I mean, learning as many instruments as possible. And we were already talking about what songs we could do in church that would involve mandolin, hammer dulcimer, and tin whistle.
But do I really want to spend money on one? I hate practicing when other people can hear me, so would I practice at all? And I like performing, but would I be willing to go up and perform? And where would I get an audience (other than church, of course).
I'm going to go after work tomorrow to look at them. And part of me is sold on buying one already. This may not be a good thing.
