This is where I dropped the kitties. How spifftacular. I'm still considering starting that nonprofit. The more I think about it and mention it to people, the more encouragement I get. I think I'm actually going to even go ahead and talk to the
Small Business and Nonprofit Law Clinic at some point during the next week or so--the first meeting, at least, appears to be free.
Problem #1: I really think I need someone with a good business sense. Me, I'm in a great position right now to find funders, but I'm not doing so well on about 90% of the other mad skillz needed.
Problem #2:
Oh Em Gee State Shutdown? So it's pretty much looking like Michigan's government will be partially shut down on Monday (unless there was some news flash I missed earlier--budgeting issues, woo). Point: MSU gets a lot of funding from the state. While it's unlikely that the university will shut down--
in fact, it specifically states it won't be--if the budgeting crisis goes on long enough, I may or may not be able to recruit fundage out of certain university departments. If things really get stalemated, who knows--there's always a risk of temporary layoffs. Both my assistantship and my part-time employment are support staff positions. I'm not seriously worried--I know none of my employers wants to leave me out to dry like that--but I could theoretically be cut from half-time (20 hours) to quarter-time (10) hours, leaving more time and a lot less money.
Heh. If I did lose those jobs, maybe that'd be a clear sign that I need to strike out on my own and start that nonprofit.
